4 Ways To Keep Weeds Out Of Your Yard

Posted on

When you look out at your yard, you want to see a beautiful green yard, not a yard that is filled with weeds. When it comes to weeds in your yard, there are steps you can take to help get the weeds out of your yard without manually pulling up all the weeds.

Use Organic Mulch

Your first step is to purchase some organic mulch. You are going to want to put the organic mulch at least three or four inches deep around all the trees and bushes in your yard. The organic mulch will help protect the ground around your bushes and trees. The mulch will help these plants retain water better and will help keeps weeds from growing around the base of these plants. Keep in mind that mulch does break down over time, so you will need to reapply the mulch over time.

Put Down Landscaping Fabric

Next, for all the areas in the yard where you have gravel or stones, you are going to want to put landscaping fabric under the stones. The landscaping fabric will help block weeds from growing up in all the areas you have so carefully landscaped with gravel and stones. The landscaping fabric will allow water and air to go through, but will make it difficult for weeds to grow.

Spray for Weeds

In your yard, you are going to want to try to stop weeds before they even become a problem. You can do this by applying a pre-emergent herbicide. A pre-emergent herbicide will help keep specific seeds from germinating and growing in your yard at all. If you go this route, it is best to apply the pre-emergent herbicide in the early spring to stop all weed seeds from germinating. You will need to repeat this process every year.

You can also spray your yard with a weed killer that is designed to kill weeds, not grass, once the weeds are already present. When spraying weed killer, remember you and your pets are going to want to stay out of the yard for a set number of hours so that the weed killer doesn't impact you.

Take Care of Weeds Immediately

Finally, when you see weeds, don't allow them to grow. If you see new weeds sprouting up, take a few minutes and pull them up. If you consistently pull up weeds as soon as they start to grow, you will gradually reduce the number of weeds that grow in your yard in the first place.

Reduce the number of weeds that grow in your yard by putting mulch around the base of trees and bushes, and by putting landscaping fabric under rocks and bark. Apply pre-emergent herbicide to your yard, use a weed killer if the weeds are already present, and always pull out weeds as soon as you see them.
