4 Organic Ways To Take Care Of Your Ant Problem
If you have an ant problem, you can get rid of your ants without using a lot of harsh chemicals. You can use organic methods to get the annoying ants out of your home.
Spray with Lemon Juice
Ants have a great sense of smell, but they don't enjoy all smells. Take a spray bottle and add pure lemon juice to it. You can also add a little bit of water if you like. Then, spray the lemon juice around any areas where you have seen the ants in your home, and near your windows and doors. The strong acidic smell from the lemons messes up their ability to track.
Spread Some Cinnamon
Another smell that ants do not enjoy is cinnamon. There are a few different ways you can use cinnamon to keep ants out. You can sprinkle ground cinnamon inside and outside your home where the ants tend to come in. You can also spray some cinnamon essential oils around all your doors and windows to keep the ants from coming in. You could dip a q-tip in cinnamon oil and then outline the areas where you want to keep the ants away from, creating a barrier that the ants will not cross.
Use Borax, Water & Sugar
You can make a mixture out of borax, sugar, and a little water and mix it together into a paste. The borax alone will kill the ants, but they are not going to be that interested in regular borax, which is why you mix the sugar in with it. This is a great way to kill the ants, and not just turn them off from getting into your home. The worker ants will take the borax back to the queen and eventually the entire nest will die out. You do need to keep this away from your pets though, as borax can be toxic for your pets.
Spread Some Diatomaceous Earth
You can also use diatomaceous earth. You will want to use the food-grade kind that is smaller, not the larger kind that is made for use in things such as your swimming pool. Take the diatomaceous Earth and spread it around the perimeter of your home. This will help to kill the ants over time; it may take a week or two for this method to work, but the ants shouldn't come back once you use this.
