A Few Other Pests To Worry About

Posted on

Roaches, ants, termites, and mice are all pests that most homeowners fear. Not only are they frightening to see, but these pests can also affect your physical and emotional health. In addition, they can pose hazards for your home. Unfortunately, roaches, ants, termites, and mice are not the only pests you need to be concerned with. With this guide, you will learn about a few other pests that can affect your space.

Centipedes

Most people know centipedes as the insect that has 100 legs. In reality, these pests can have between 15 and 177 legs. They range in size, measuring 1/8" to an astonishing 6" long. No matter how many legs they have or how long they are, centipedes can be unappealing guests in your home.

Centipedes will most likely not attack you. However, if you attempt to handle one, they may bite you. While it is surprising to learn, these pests can release a venom that may not be life-threatening but can be painful.

Kissing Bugs

With a name like kissing bugs, you may think that these pests cannot be so bad. However, they can also be unappealing pests in your home.

Kissing bugs have a distinct shape with a cone-shaped head. They will be dark black or brown in color. Some kissing bugs may have yellow, red, or tan spots on their abdomen.

Their flat body allows them to quickly and effortlessly squeeze through the smallest of cracks and crevices around doors, windows, and in spaces of the crawlspace or attic.

Although they will not harm your home, kissing bugs can harm you and your pets. They will bite in an attempt to feed on blood. Their bites can be uncomfortable but not poisonous.

Box Elder Bugs

Another common bug that homeowners should be concerned with are box elder bugs. They are usually black and red in color and will have a flat, elongated body. In a similar manner to kissing bugs, their flat body allows them to squeeze through very tight spaces.

Fortunately, box elder bugs do not pose any danger to your home or health, but they can be nuisances.

If you see one box elder bug, you most likely have multiple of these pests in and around your home. Signs of an infestation include loud buzzing sounds around your home, stains that are dropped from their bodies, and strong, foul odors that are released when these bugs are crushed.
