2 Termite Treatments an Exterminator May Use
If you have termites, they can cause your house to lose its structural support. As soon as you realize that you have termites, you need to get an exterminator to come to your house so that you can get it treated and get rid of the termites as soon as possible. There are several things that the exterminator can do to help get rid of the termites.
1. Tenting
One thing that the exterminator can do is to tent your house. This will happen if you have a pretty severe infestation because it can be a really strong treatment. The way that this works is that the exterminator will completely enclose your house in a large tent. The goal is to seal off your house completely, so all the treatment stays in your house. Once everything gets sealed off, and all living beings are taken out of the house, the exterminator will flood your house with an insecticide fog. That gas will take two or three days to work and then clear out. Having your entire house completely sealed will ensure that the fog goes into where the termites are and kills them. When you get back into your house, you will want to make sure that you thoroughly clean it so that you get rid of any residue from the fog.
2. Bait Stations
Another thing that the exterminator can do is to use bait stations. These bait stations contain an insecticide that the termites eat and can carry back to their nest. The more insecticide that gets carried back to the nest, the more termites are going to die. The exterminator can place bait stations in several places, generally wherever there is a suspicion that there are termites. Bait stations can also be placed around the exterior of your house to attract the termites and prevent them from going into your house. The bait will be more accessible and more attractive to the termites than the wood in your house will be so they will gravitate to the baits. Preventative bait stations should be placed far enough out from your house to make it harder for the termites to get to them but close enough to block termites from sneaking in behind the stations.
