The 3 Most Effective Rodents Control Methods To Consider

Posted on

Rats and mice are the most common types of rodents you will contend with at home. They destroy almost anything chewable and even carry diseases that they leave behind in your home. Unfortunately, it becomes challenging to completely eradicate these rodents from your space if you have little information on how to handle them.

Here are the three most effective rodent control techniques you can use to eliminate rodents from your home or office easily.

Rodent-Proofing

If there's a huge rodent infestation around your home, even having the cleanest house can't help keep them away. You should check any opening in your home and seal the cracks and holes that can aid the entrance of rodents into your house.

Don't ignore the tiniest of holes, assuming that mice and rats can't get through. Typically, a mouse can squeeze in through a hole that's ¼ of an inch wide. You can stuff these holes with steel wool or aluminum netting to keep the rodents out completely. Heavy wire mesh or copper gauze can equally do an excellent job in sealing such openings. Finally, consider covering ground-level windows using tight-fitting window screens to achieve complete lockout.

Rodenticides

Many approved rodent poisons you can buy and use to kill mice and rats infesting your home or workspace. Rodenticides are only used in scenarios where there's a massive infestation of rodents. Care and caution should be practiced when using this method to avoid accidents of human consumption of the poison.

While using the rodenticides, apply a small portion of the poison on the bait you have chosen and place it in a strategic position where the rodent is likely to pass. However, you shouldn't place this bait where your pets can get access to either. Instead, restrict it to small, confined spaces where only the rodents can fit.

Ultrasonic Sound Waves

Rats and mice can't stand ultrasonic sound waves, and using the sounds to scare the rodents away is an effective way of keeping them at bay. Therefore, you can buy devices that produce high sound waves and place them at strategic locations where the rodents will likely pass through.

Once these devices are on, you can open the doors and windows to let them out of the house. The best way to optimize these devices is to use them in every room as the sound waves cannot travel through walls. In the long run, rodents will get used to the sound, and the method will probably not be effective. You'll need to use an additional method to eliminate the rodents.
